Jane Garnham

Senior Associate

Jane has been working in the voluntary sector for over twenty five years managing housing and support services to a range of client groups but focusing in the last decade on organisational and team development for a diverse range of clients. In 2011/12 she completed an interim post as CEO of Community Action Southwark.

Jane’s work is characterised by a focus on developing the potential of individuals to have real influence on the service they access and most recently she has set up CoProduced with Augusto D Mello a respected service user consultant. She has a particular interest in looking at how action learning can support well-being and has been involved in piloting sets for individuals who use mental health services.

Action learning facilitation

Action learning has been an important element of Jane’s on-going professional development since being in a set in 1999 and she has been in a peer set since 2007. She has delivered action learning sets for a wide range of clients including Cranstoun Drug Services, mcch and Sitra. In 2009 she piloted action learning for people who were accessing mental health services and in 2009 /10 she developed a national set for leaders of mental health services who were survivor leaders.

She is currently facilitating a set for voluntary sector leaders in Bexley. As an Associate with ALA Jane has delivered a three year programme of action learning sets for managers within London & Quadrant*, a programme of in-house sets for Southside Partnership, and worked with the Refugee Council as part of a wider Leadership Development programme.

She is currently setting up and delivering a nationwide pilot programme of action learning sets for Citizens Advice. Aimed at building the governance capacity and capability of bureaux the sets will bring together trustees with diverse experience of governance and strategic leadership.

Facilitation and training

An experienced trainer Jane has been devising and delivering training programmes for over 12 years. Initially these focused on improving the skill and knowledge base of individual employees. Jane has also developed training materials for people who use housing and support services and delivers team building and management development programmes.

She is also experienced in facilitating away days and review days for people who use services, staff and trustees; most recent examples being for Greater London Volunteering and Southwark Pensioners. Jane also delivers ALA’s accredited programme in action learning facilitation, most recently for the Workforce Development Unit at the London Borough of Hackney.
